Apple announced via an image on its site today that the iOS App Store has surpassed 50 billion downloads.
On May 2 Apple announced that it was closing in on 50 billion downloads from its App Store, and a mere 13 days later it has surpassed that number. We don’t know yet whom the lucky downloader was, but they will be receiving a $10,000 Apple gift card to enjoy for being the one to hit the milestone.
This milestone also means that App downloads are increasing. As MacRumors pointed out, it took Apple three years and eight months to hit 25 billion downloads, but it did the next 25 billion in only 14 and a half months. This means that it is currently on pace to do 20 billion downloads per year. So we’ll see you in Nov. 2015 for the 100 billion download celebration.
Does anyone else notice an odd coincidence that this happened on the day Google kicked off its annual developer conference? We’re sure it truly is a coincidence, but it’s still kind of amusing.
