Shadows of the Eternals

Precursor Games has its Kickstarter campaign for Shadow of the Eternals officially up and running. The team of mostly former Silicon Knights developers is looking for $1.35M to create the spiritual successor to their GameCube hit Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.

The $1.35M is not a random number, but the $150,000 difference Precursor has already achieved through its own independent crowd-funding drive on the game’s official website, where Precursor is looking for a whopping $1.5M.

It might sound confusing to have two at once, but just to make it clear, Precursor is looking for $1.5M in total through two campaigns to make the game a reality.

While an excellent looking game from the promo material, the launch of the campaigns has not been a runaway success story, and it looks like Precursor is in for a nail-biter. Both drives together have only pulled in around $190,000 in total after the first week, where most established publishers, like Obsidian and inXile, have achieved their million dollar goals after a single day.

As mentioned before, and not in its “risks and challenges” section on the campaign website, many are wary of the former Silicon Knights and its spotty reputation. In order to get the $1.5M needed to make this game, they are going to have to do a lot more than release cool screenshots and trailers to convince their audience they have changed their ways along with their name.

The CEO has denied any connection to Silicon Knights, defended the participation of former boss Denis Dyack, and this Kickstarter campaign should be telling if gamers are ready to forgive and forget.

If the campaign is successful, Shadow of the Eternals will be an episodic game released digitally through the PC and Wii U.
