What was originally a full-on XCOM relaunch in FPS form has now become a third-person origin story in the established XCOM universe. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is a tactical, over-the-shoulder shooter with influence from and mechanics surrounding XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
When this project was originally unveiled as a rebirth of the series, fans of the classic X-COM formula were upset. Then 2K Games thought better of the license and had Firaxis develop XCOM: Enemy Unknown for diehard fans (who mostly loved it).
Now, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is actually happening, and the fresh gameplay trailer that sits at the head of this post is proof.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will launch for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms on August 20th, 2013. What do you think of the switch to third-person perspective and general rebranding of the game? Is this something you’ll pick up?
