The Ouya’s launch has been delayed. The Android powered little console, built with gamers and developers in mind, will now launch on June 25th, 2013 instead of June 4th. It will still sell for $99.99.
Here’s what Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman told Joystiq regarding the decision to delay the console’s launch:
“We’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June.”
Furthermore, Joystiq indicates that they have learned that the major defect in the Ouya’s controller is being fixed. Developers, gamers and press who backed the Ouya and received their units have noticed that one of the buttons, when pressed firmly, sticks below the plastic casing of the system’s controller. This was happening on a large scale, not just with select users.
But, hey, it’s being addressed. The buttons are being made a touch larger, it seems. And Backers who report a problem with their controllers will receive new ones. So, bingo.
What do you think of the Ouya? Will you be snagging one?
