BlackBerry Responds to CEO’s Anti-Tablet Comments

Earlier today we published a quote by BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins in which he declared that the tablet market will be dead in five years. It suggested that BlackBerry will not launch a new tablet in the near future. The company recently reached out to TechnoBuffalo with an official comment on the matter, perhaps in an effort to stifle claims that BlackBerry has no plans for the tablet industry.

“The comments that Thorsten made yesterday are in line with previous comments he has made about the future of mobile computing overall, and the possibilities that come with a platform like BlackBerry 10,” BlackBerry said in its email. “We continue to evaluate our tablet strategy, but we are not making any shifts in that strategy in the short term. When we do have information about our PlayBook strategy, we will share it.”

The statement doesn’t deny that Heins bashed the tablet industry, that’s hard to skirt, but it does suggest that there’s a strategy for the PlayBook brand moving forward.
