Mac OS 10.9: Which Big Cat Would you Like for Apple’s Next OS?

Lynx Family

There is no doubt that OS X 10.9 is on its way with some nifty new features in tow. There is, however, one burning question everyone wants to know the answer to: Which breed of big cat will it be named for?

Each version of Mac OS X has been accompanied by the name of a big cat. When we reached 10.7 Lion, many pundits thought we were done as we had reached “the king of the jungle,” but then 10.8 came along with Mountain Lion in tow proving all of them wrong. So it may be fun to try to guess what 10.9 will be called.

Here is a history of the cat names used thus far.

  • 10.0: “Cheetah”
  • 10.1: “Puma”
  • 10.2: “Jaguar”
  • 10.3: “Panther”
  • 10.4: “Tiger”
  • 10.5: “Leopard”
  • 10.6: “Snow Leopard”
  • 10.7: “Lion”
  • 10.8: “Mountain Lion”

We’ve whipped up a poll for some unused big cat names for you to vote on to see which you would like to see announced at WWDC in June. Around the TechnoBuffalo offices we’re pulling for “Liger” and “Mr. Whiskers.”
