Tech Looms Large on the New Time 100 List of Influential People

It’s time for the Time 100 once again. Every year, the magazine puts out its list of the “most influential people in the world,” and like in years prior, the list is jam-packed full of tech titans and luminaries.

Here’s just some of the notable names:

Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk
Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom
Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei
Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos
Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon
Minecraft developers Markus Persson and Jens Bergensten
OkCupid founder and CEO Sam Yagan
Facebook COO and “Lean In” bestseller author Sheryl Sandberg
Apple design mastermind Jony Ive
Google Ideas guy Jared Cohen
Coursera co-founders Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller
Kickstarter CEO Perry Chen
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer

The one that really got our attention was Musk (Tesla), and not just because he’s on the cover. Richard Branson’s blurb about the executive was sheer brilliance: “It’s a paradox that Elon is working to improve our planet at the same time he’s building spacecraft to help us leave it.” (If anyone knows about leaving terra firma, it’s Branson. See Virgin Galactic.)

And if you ever wondered what Google’s reaction was to Marissa Mayer joining Yahoo, this one’s for you: Eric Schmidt wrote, “Google was lucky to have her help us grow into what we became, and Yahoo is lucky to have her taking them someplace new.”
