A report from Vietnamese blog Tinhte.vn claims the iPhone 5S will launch with a 12-megapixel camera. The site’s sources claim to be from Vietnamese company Wonderful Saigon Electrics, a maker of iPhone camera modules.
The new camera is expected to improve picture resolution and allow for clearer pictures to be taken in low light situations, such as at night.
The iPhone 5 sports an 8-megapixel camera similar to the one found in the iPhone 4S. Generally, the new “S” phones in the series improves the camera sensor and other hardware. For example, the iPhone 4S had a better camera than the the 5-megapixel shooter found in the iPhone 4. That said, it makes sense that we’ll see a slight bump in the camera department.
Tinhte.vn has reported correctly on Apple rumors in the past, like the reveal of the EarPods, and a new camera for the iPhone 5S has been rumored for some time. Despite the site’s accuracy in the past, we’re still marking this as a rumor.
Apple is expected to release the phone this summer and Foxconn, its main iPhone manufacturer, reportedly recently ramped up hiring in anticipation of mass production.
