Google chairman Eric Schmidt recently said that more than 1.5 million Android devices are now being activated daily. That’s 200,000 additional devices per day than the most recent status update, when Google shared in September that 1.3 million Android devices were being activated daily.
That means in a single year there are more Android activations, and that includes tablets and smartphones, than the entire population of the United States. It’s no wonder manufacturers such as Samsung are seeing success in emerging markets such as China. Schmidt said that the company expects more than 1 billion devices will have been activated by the end of this year.
To put that into perspective, as of data from 2011, there are 6.9 billion people living on the planet.
