Psy to Debut New Song in YouTube Concert

Can Korean rapper Psy capture lightning in a bottle again? It looks like the world will find out on Saturday.

Psy rose to global prominence last year with the release of his quirky music video for the song “Gangnam Style.” Last Nov. it became the most watched video in YouTube history, and then became the first video to break 1 billion views a mere month later. You would have thought the world had satisfied itself of this song by now, but the video currently stands at over 1.5 billion views and continues to rise.

How do you follow up such a monster hit? Many critics wondered if Psy should even attempt it, but it looks like he will. This Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. Eastern Psy will stream a concert on his YouTube channel from Korea where he will debut a new song entitled “Gentelman.” No word as of yet when we’ll see a video for the single.

You have to hand it to Psy that he has the courage to attempt following up “Gangnam Style.” Everything he will do for the rest of his life will be compared to that song and this has the ability to crash and burn, be called a pale imitation and be criticized to the ends of the world.

In case you’ve never sampled in of his other songs, we’ve embedded a single from 2010 entitled “Right Now” for you to check out.
