According to a freshly leaked roadmap, Office for iOS and Android, which have been rumored time and time again, won’t be out until October 2014 at the earliest. I’m sure folks are hoping to take Microsoft’s beloved suite for a spin on their iPads and Nexus 7s, but that’s a pretty hefty wait. If you haven’t found an alternative mobile solution yet, you better start shopping around now to bridge the time.

ZDNet acquired the leaked roadmap but wasn’t able to verify when it was actually drawn up. ZDNet’s source claims it may be as current as the beginning of 2013. As recently as last December rumors suggested Apple and Microsoft were in negotiations over a revenue sharing model to use Office 365, which is a new subscription service that launched earlier this year.

Before that, references to Office for iOS appeared in Microsoft’s support pages, so it seems something is definitely in the works. It’s just going to be a much, much longer wait than we hoped.
