A judge with the United States International Trade Commission said Friday that Samsung infringed on a patent owned by Apple that’s related to how a user can select text. Two patents were in question, and a second one also owned by Apple relates to technology that can detect if a microphone is using the phone’s 3.5mm headphone jack, Reuters said. That patent was not found to be infringed upon.

The ITC has the power to ban Samsung from importing new devices to be sold in the United States. Apple believes that the company’s Galaxy Nexus and several other products should be banned from sale, although that’s at the discretion of the judge. Reuters said that a final decision will be made in August after the judge’s recommendation is given a full review.

Apple won a different lawsuit against Samsung last summer, in which it was awarded more than $1 billion in damages. A report last month suggested Samsung may only owe Apple $598 million, but a differing report this month suggested that Samsung actually owes more than the original $1 billion. figure.
