Flashback Friday: BlackBerry Pearl

Flashback FridayThere was a time where BlackBerry – known as RIM at the time – ruled the smartphone world, and that was due in part to the BlackBerry Pearl line.

Jon Rettinger has recently been counting down his 10 favorite phones of all time, and it may surprise some that a BlackBerry was on the list. As he noted, he was using a BlackBerry Pearl on the day the iPhone was announced, and that tells you where the industry was at the time and how things rapidly changed.

The Peal was a bit of an odd duck in the BlackBerry Qwerty lineup as it didn’t use a full keyboard but instead had two letters per key. While I never used the Pearl, Jon said in his video that once you got used to it it was extremely fast, so we’ll just have to take his word on it.
