Verizon Shoots Down Vodafone Acquisition Rumors

A report on Tuesday suggested that Verizon was talking with AT&T about possibly acquiring Vodafone. That report is false, Verizon Communications said in a statement to Market Watch recently.

“Verizon Communications Inc. notes the recent press speculation regarding a potential merger with or purchase by Verizon of Vodafone,” the company explained. “As Verizon has said many times, it would be a willing purchaser of the 45% stake that Vodafone holds in Verizon Wireless. It does not, however, currently have any intention to merge with or make an offer for Vodafone, whether alone or in conjunction with others”

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Vodafone and Verizon Communications, and a report last month suggested the two firms are in new negotiations to discuss the future of Verizon Wireless.
