Apple is planning to begin production of its next iPhone, largely assumed to be the iPhone 5S, this quarter, The Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday. The company is reportedly hoping to launch the phone sometime this summer, which lines up nicely with rumors that the device will be announced in June and released to the public in July.

The Cupertino-based company will build the iPhone 5S in tandem with its budget-friendly iPhone, likely bound for China with a 4-inch display and a plastic case. The Wall Street Journal said a variety of colors are still possible but that plan is not final.
