Nuance on Monday announced its new Voice Ads product, a piece of software that it hopes advertisers will use in order to better interact with mobile consumers. Here’s how it works: a brand can create an advertisement that might be displayed on a website or in an application, and then you can interact with the advertisement.
In one example provided by Nuance, the company created a fake deodorant brand that provides an 8 ball experience. You can ask the eight ball questions, like “should I buy the engagement ring?” and the advertisement will interact directly with you. “Heads or tales,” the ad asks. The user then says “heads,” and the advertisement says “you should definitely buy the ring… and while you’re at it check out this deodorant.”
The ad is super basic, but we imagine brilliant marketers, such as those behind the Old Spice or Snickers commercials, might be able to come up with much more fun and unique interactions. Nuance said it already partnered with several companies and will provide the functionality to more than 100,000 app publishers.
