Blizzard Announces First Free-To-Play Game “Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft”

Blizzard hasn’t always been ahead of the game, but once an online trend begins to occur, nobody can jump in and dominate like they can. When online RTS were becoming all the rage, they created Warcraft and Starcraft. When MMORPGs started taking off, they only launched the most successful in history, World of Warcraft.

Now that free-to-play is the way of the future, Blizzard has finally announced their first attempt to fully jump into the fray.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an online collectible card game which will be coming to iPads, PCs and Macs. Always a fan of CCG’s, Blizzard has stated they are aiming to create the most fluid and accessible card game yet, and with their proven history of shaking down the house, other established card games should be wary to keep an eye out.

“We’ve always loved collectible card games at Blizzard, so it’s been exciting to bring everything we love about the genre to life in Hearthstone. We’re putting a lot of focus into creating a fun new game that’s easy to pick up and play, but also has a lot of depth. We can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is being created by a development team of 15 programmers within Blizzard. Pricing options will vary depending on the amount of cards bought, but basic packs will cost $1.

Any bets on whether or not Blizzard will actively demolish yet another facet of online gaming? Does the Warcraft name hold enough muscle to go toe-to-toe with Magic the Gathering?
