Apple’s iCloud is the current industry leader in the emerging cloud storage market. According to a recent report from Strategy Analytics, Apple’s storage and backup service had a 27 percent share among all cloud storage options as of October. It was followed by Dropbox with a 17 percent share, Amazon’s Cloud Drive with a 15 percent share, Google Drive at 10 percent and smaller, lesser known services.
The individual platforms have unique aspects, however. iCloud is very much a backup service and an area to store music and applications. Dropbox, meanwhile, is as its name implies – a place to simply drop and share files. Amazon’s Cloud Drive is similar, and Google Drive syncs with Google Keep, Google Docs and other services.
Strategy Analytics found that, among survey respondents, 55 percent had never used a cloud storage solution. That shows there’s still a lot of room to grow in this market.
