According to a few different reports, Dropbox threw down $100 million for the hyped iOS email app Mailbox. That’s a pretty impressive figure for an app so young and not yet in its prime. But it just goes to show that good ideas aren’t cheap.
Dropbox reportedly had competition from Yahoo and Facebook before emerging the victor. How often is it when Zuckerberg doesn’t get what he wants? How long before Facebook creates its own spin on Mailbox? I still haven’t gotten the new News Feed.
It’s still unclear how Dropbox plans to handle the small Mailbox startup. Dropbox is an ever-evolving force of its own, and now with email in the picture, we’ll probably see some integration of attachments and the like in the imminent future.
