Yacht Club Games Founded By Ex-WayForward Employees

I’ve got nothing but love for the guys who run WayForward Technologies. Their uncanny ability to time-warp me back into the heyday of 16-bit gaming is second to none, so you can imagine how I feel about there being a brand new indie studio formed by some of its top developers.

Game director Sean Velasco and five other senior members have split themselves from WayForward to form Yacht Club Games. Before forming their own studios, the six members share between them an impressive list of games like Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob, BloodRayne Betrayal, Mighty Milky Way, and most recently, Double Dragon Neon.

Doesn’t seem like much will change with their approach to games. In an introduction letter to fans and newcomers alike, Velasco claimed that his team was still dedicated to making “really awesome games that fuse modern and retro game philosophies.”

They’ve even have the teaser to prove it. Although they haven’t announced anything yet, their Facebook page promises a booth at PAX East and even hints at some retro-pixelated sprites, which hopefully will star in their new game.

Best of luck to the youngest gaming studio in the world, and I hope to see some pixelated gems in the near future.
