It hasn’t even been a month since they announced their acquisition of the Ninja Turtles franchise, and Activision already has a game announced and planned for this summer.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows doesn’t seem to fall in line with any previous iterations of the superhero team, turning what seems to be a darker and more modern spin than the most recent cartoon.
Color me unimpressed with the animation and graphics so far. The character models are especially creepy, and I don’t care to look at them anymore than I really have to. Looks like the developers were attempting too much to make them look like real turtles. After all, they do state they are going for a “hyper-realistic 3D-style” when creating a game about humanoid reptiles.
One thing developers Red Fly Studio has gotten correct is multiplayer, a horrible oversight from the previous game to bear the name. Gamers can brawl with friends over the internet while simultaneously debating who gets stuck with Raphael and his horribly typically useless weapon.
It’s a shame because he’s always been my favorite turtle.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will be released as a download only game through Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PCs. Two more games from Activision are expected in the coming years.
