To help broaden its reach and hopefully garner more interest, Microsoft on Thursday announced the Surface RT will be available in six more countries later next month. It’s been a slow and steady rollout for one of the market’s most important devices (though not necessarily the best), however it’s still unclear how well Microsoft’s wunderkind has sold.
“The worldwide customers response to both Surface RT with Windows RT and Surface Pro with Windows 8 Pro has been exciting to see,” Microsoft said on its Surface blog. Microsoft is calling this a “phased” approach. Without giving precise dates, Microsoft said the Surface RT will soon be available in Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan.
In addition to expanded Surface RT availability, Microsoft revealed that the Surface Pro will leave the borders of North America to six additional countries over “the coming months.” Those countries include: Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the U.K. Microsoft said more details will come in due time.
