A public preview of Windows Blue will reportedly be ready within the next few months, with a summer launch planned for the final version. According to sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, the company recently surpassed Milestone 1 of Windows Blue, with a Milestone Preview and public preview imminent.

Microsoft is allegedly focusing on improving Windows’s search charm functionality, with Bing playing a major part in how search is handled. “A number of scenarios are being targeted, including the ability for users to search for a movie and have apps surface that content and provide a quick way to play it,” The Verge said. Current search in Windows 8 goes deep within apps, but you have to specifically search within a specific app. Windows Blue is an expansion on that.

When Windows Blue launches, it’ll be available to existing Windows 8 users, adding support for 7- and 8-inch devices, along with IE 11 built-in. Of course, a Blue update is being planned for Windows Phone as well in attempts to further integrate each platform.
