Team Meat has finally fully revealed their latest game, Mew-Genics, after 17 weeks of teasing with bits of information. However, their broad description of a being a “cat lady simulator” still leaves plenty mystery with how the game plays.
Edmund McMillan and Tommy Refenes, the game design geniuses behind Super Meat Boy, claim the core of their game is “really isn’t like anything we’ve seen before.”
Think most would describe Mew-Genics as a cross between The Sims and Pokemon with a sprinkling of Animal Crossing and a dash of Tamagotchi.
Team Meat is typically known for their dark and unapologetic sense of humor, and Mew-Genics is certainly going to be no different. A short story describing the game mentions unfreezing cats from Cryogenic status and their traumatic experiences through competition in a winner take all cat pageant.
I wasn’t able to save Dot because I was arrested by the local animal control shortly after I put Puddle in the cube, probably because of letting Goon run away.. and the whole giving my other cat aids thing… or maybe it was the dead cat in the attic.
Behind the dark humor, McMillen also promises a deep experience in a “living world where cats act like cats and the player as well as the cat’s actions actually matter.” From the barebones description, I think it will be a breeding simulator with over 25418658283290000000000000 different cats.
Not quite certain with what Team Meat has on their hands here, but sign me up. If it comes off half as rewarding as Super Meat Boy, then it will be a first day purchase when it comes out for Steam, iOS, Android and “possibly more.”
