Google Search for Android Can Tell You What Song is Playing

The latest version of the Google Search app for Android has an embedded Shazam-like ability. The more you know. Google explained the feature in a Google+ post on Monday, saying that when you tap the microphone button, a music icon will appear to indicate the app hears music. Tap that button and voila, Google will (possibly) tell you which song is currently playing.

It’s not quite as convenient as the Sound Search widget that was made available in December, but it’s a neat little last resort built in. Once Google does identify what song is playing, the app naturally directs you to purchase the song through Google Play. I gave it a quick whirl and it did just fine. Just fine indeed.
