A Chinese media source is making claims that Apple will be releasing both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 before the end of the year, and that while the iPhone 5S will closely resemble the iPhone 5, the iPhone 6 does in fact have the long rumored 5-inch screen.
– A source told Chinese mobile phone information site Laoyaoba.com that he has seen the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 at Apple’s suppliers. Both models may be released in 2013, according to the website’s microblog on Thursday evening.
– The source noted that the iPhone 5S resembles the iPhone 5, and the five-inch iPhone 6 is lighter and thinner.
It goes without saying that it would be best to take this rumor with a huge grain of salt. The source of the story, calling himself Old Yao on the microblogging site Sina Tech, says that a friend of his saw both models at one of Apple’s Chinese suppliers. You can call it thin or whatever you like, but his stories do play into some previously existing solid rumors.
In regards to the larger screen on the iPhone 6, even Apple’s CEO Tim Cook shot the idea of a larger screen down in response to the widely rumored iPhone Math during his quarterly earnings call. Apple says it puts a lot of thought into the phone’s size in regards to one-handed usage, but recent reports suggest that this new iPhone Math will have a 4.8-inch screen and will launch alongside the standard 4-inch inch screen iPhone 5S this June.
Users have long been calling out for Apple to increase the size of its screen, especially to compete with the Galaxy S3, which sits ahead of the curb at a comfortable 4.8-inches. It seems reasonable it would have at least a larger mock-up made to test out the possibilities of a 5-inch screen.
