Flashback Friday: 1950s TVs

Flashback FridayIf there was any over arching theme at CES 2013, it was that televisions are getting thinner, shinier and smarter. What a long way we have come from the olden days.

As this 1950’s commercial for DuMont televisions tells you, your most important choice at the time was what type of wood you wanted the body made out of, not whether or not you wanted to go for an LED now or wait for the OLEDs to finally come down to a price you coud afford. And should you go for 110-inches? I mean, people made due back then with 13-inches, so why by greedy?

Yes, we’re talking about over 60 years ago, but it is fascinating to see how far this particular technology has come. Considering where we are now, will we be talking about Star Wars-like 3D hologram projections by CES 2073?

Well, I hope it’s before then as I’d like to see them before I’m 101-years-old.
