Apple Reportedly Working on Less Expensive iPhone

Apple is reportedly working on a less expensive iPhone. Our first reaction to the news, which The Wall Street Journal ran earlier today, was that Apple is always working on a cheaper iPhone. After all, the iPhone 4S is the less expensive version of the iPhone 5. And the iPhone 5 may one day be the less expensive version of the iPhone 5S.

But here’s where thinks take a twist.

Apparently Apple is really working on a model that will be cheaper—something totally different than simply lowering the price of the last generation product. How? Sources speaking with The Wall Street Journal said that it will focus on cheaper build materials. Plastic? We can’t see Apple taking that route, not since its aluminum products look so stunning. Apple’s about creating premium products, after all.

The phone is expected to launch later this year, probably in tandem with the introduction of the new iPhone.
