The world just can’t get over how angry these birds really are! The global sensation continued over Christmas week with the Angry Birds series pulling in an astounding 30 million downloads. 8 million of these downloads came on Christmas day alone!

This story comes as aging news, but we figured we’d share it based on the sheer scale of the numbers.

Granted this is not just the original game, but every game in the series including Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space, Bad Piggies, and of course, Angry Birds Star Wars. Rovio hasn’t released how the downloads are split amongst the games, but they did comment Angry Birds Star Wars has continuously been the number one downloaded game since its release on November 8th, 2012.

Rovio is also claiming that 50% of every new mobile device, estimated at 17.4 million tablets and phones, activated over the holiday season downloaded at least one version of the popular physics game, giving Angry Birds the Mario and Master Chief levels of attachment rates.

2012 was another banner year for Rovio and all mobile game developers looking to break the mold of the gaming market.

“It’s been an amazing year and we can’t thank our fans enough for their fantastic support. Stay tuned in 2013 for even more incredible surprises!”

Love them or hate them, the Angry Birds are not hibernating anytime soon. Expect to see them on every calendar, T-shirt, coffee mug, and plush toy machine for months and months to come.
