HTC is reportedly working to build 12-inch and 7-inch Windows-based tablets. Several of Microsoft’s partners have already released similar devices, although HTC was apparently left out of the circle when Microsoft began approaching its partners earlier this year.
Bloomberg said the new tablets will launch in 2013, although it wasn’t specific on exactly when the devices will hit the market. Both tablets will run on Microsoft’s Windows RT platform, which is the watered-down version off Windows 8 that runs on ARM processors. It’s compelling enough, but the app store is certainly lagging behind all other competitors right now. HTC’s 7-inch tablet will apparently be capable of placing phone calls, too.
Nokia is also allegedly working on its own 10-inch tablet to debut next year. Will Microsoft’s partners be able to out perform the sluggish sales of the Surface RT?
