Steam has been available to select Linux users fortunate enough to score an invite for some time now. Today, Valve has elected to remove the invitation requirement and take the beta to an open format.

Use Linux? Want to try Steam? Today’s your lucky day. While you’re at it, here’s a look at the games that support Linux on Steam right now.

Finally, in case you didn’t already know, today marks the start of the Steam holiday sale. It’s pretty much the perfect time to install the client. A few of the games in the Linux library are on sale, so dive in with an intention to spend.

Of the games on sale, I can easily recommend CogsAmnesia: The Dark DescentDungeons of Dredmor and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. There’s a bunch more, though, so don’t let those recommendations stand as the only that you check out.

Here’s where you can snag Steam for Linux.
