Amazon updated its iOS application on Thursday with support for Instant Video streaming on the iPhone and iPod touch. The application previously only let users with larger screen iPads to stream the content.

You’ll need an Amazon Prime membership in order to take advantage of the Instant Video store, which is home to 140,000 videos, but it’s a compelling alternative to Netflix because Prime also provides free 2-day shipping and a free Kindle book rental each month.

Amazon Prime costs $79 per year, although you can try a one-month trial first. The Amazon application is free and is available from the iTunes App Store.
