Flashback Friday: Grand Theft Auto

Flashback FridayLets kick it old school with the original Grand Theft Auto, shall we?

You have to wonder if back in Oct. 1997 if anyone realized a gaming phenomenon was hitting the shelves in its infancy. Sure every game designer is hoping that the title they labored over will be a huge hit, but how many of them actually succeed? Of course, it wasn’t until Grand Theft Auto III that things really took off, and then Grand Theft Auto IV was just a monster, but from humble beginnings in all that.

The low quality video you see above is about the only thing I could find for the original entry in the series. A far cry from the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto V that even had a countdown clock to its arrival. Isn’t it amazing how much things can change in 15 years?

So, a tip of the hat for it sticking around this long and changing a lot of the gaming world. My prediction for the next upstart is the Cooking Mama series … mark my words.
