Google Glass Not Alone: Vuzix M100 To Compete in Augmented Reality

by Roy Choi | November 13, 2012

Vuzix announced a new product today that promises to compete against Google Glass.  While Google Glass isn’t even available to the masses, it is already facing stiff competition.  Olympus promises to take on Google on this front, so have various crowd-sourced projects and now the Vuzix M100.

The Vuzix M100 will run a variant of Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich.  The device will shoot 720p video on 4GB of internal flash.  The developer’s kit will set you back $999.  While it looks like developers are betting big on augmented reality, one has to wonder if there is room for as many “Google Glass” copycats.  While the technology doesn’t appear to be something that everyone will adopt quickly (strangeness, price, application), it is an interesting concept and I look forward to trying it out myself.
