Nyko PlayPad

Touch-based gaming on smartphones and tablets is a perfect match for some game types, but for others, it’s a frustrating experience — especially for traditional gamers who have become accustomed to physical controls and buttons. Nyko aims to solve that problem with a pair of new wireless game pads for Android.

They’re called the PlayPad and the PlayPad Pro, and they’re on sale now at Amazon, GameStop, and Walmart for $39.99 each.

The PlayPad is the smallest of the two, designed for gamers on the go who want something small and portable to throw in their bag. It connects to your Android 3.0+ devices via Bluetooth, and offers dual analog sticks, a d-pad, four action buttons, and dual shoulder buttons on the top-left and top-right of the controller.

The PlayPad Pro is a larger controller (though it costs the same) and doesn’t look too dissimilar to an Xbox 360 controller. It, too, connects via Bluetooth, and offers the same analog stick and button setup.

Nyko promises that the PlayPads are compatible with “numerous” high end Android games, and using the company’s Playground app, you can utilize keyboard mapping, touch mapping, and mouse support to setup PlayPads with your favorite titles.

Will you be picking up a PlayPad or PlayPad Pro for your Android device?
