Microsoft Launches New App for Syncing Windows Phone 8 Devices with Windows 8, Windows RT

Windows Phone 8 syncing app

With Windows Phone 8 now just hours away, Microsoft has launched a new app that will allow you to sync your shiny new smartphone with your Windows 8 or Windows RT computers and tablets, including the recently released Surface. It’s available to download now from the Windows Store.

The app allows you to sync music, videos, photos, and more between your Windows Phone 8 device and your PC or tablet, replacing the Zune desktop client that is used for Windows Phone 7. It only works with Windows Phone 8 devices, so you won’t be able to use it with older smartphones, unfortunately.

There’s not a lot you can do with the app right away, then. But if you’re planning to pick up a new device soon, you can at least install it so that it’s ready to go.

The Verge reports that the new app should install itself automatically when a Windows Phone 8 device is connected to a Windows 8 computer, but with no Windows Phone 8 smartphones available right now, we’re unable to confirm that.

Are you planning to pick up a new Windows Phone 8 device?
