5th Avenue Apple Store in NYC Closed, Sandbagged For Hurricane Sandy

It’s a rarity to see the 5th Avenue Apple Store closed. It’s usually open 24 hours a day 365 days a year and, typically, only shuts down for a few hours ahead of major product launches. Today, however, the iconic glass store is bundled up with sand bags to prevent flooding and all of the products inside are covered in plastic.

We’re expecting major storm surges on the East Coast today, and plenty of rain, but the 5th Avenue Apple Store is pretty far from the two rivers surrounding Manhattan. We’re guessing Apple is just taking preventative measures in case the ceiling leaks and so that rain water doesn’t run down the stairs. There’s no word on when the store will re-open but our best bet is on Wednesday after the storm has fully passed over NYC.
