Competition is essential to the mobile market, an ingredient that breeds excellence and ultimately gives consumers more options to choose from. Sometimes it’s not always the latest and greatest options that people want, however, even when dealing with Apple’s new iPad mini.
Yes, the Apple’s new tab is reportedly selling well. But Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD, a device in direct competition with the mini, enjoyed its best ever single sales day following Apple’s Oct. 23 announcement. At least that’s what a company spokesman said on Friday.
“Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD’s biggest day of sales since launch and up 3x week over week,” the spokesman told AllThingsD.
That right there could indicate just how crucial price is, with many folks likely waiting to make their decision until Apple finally announced its iPad mini. Amazon is always coy with sales figures, so it’s unclear just how many Kindle Fire HDs the online retailer has sold. It’s currently its best selling item across all of Amazon, so one would assume quite a few are being purchased everyday.
