Microsoft’s Surface tablet, powered by Windows RT, is now available for purchase. If you didn’t have a chance to pre-order one you can find one in any of Microsoft’s pop-up stores around the country, or head over to its website to order a device for delivery within 3 weeks. The tablet comes in three flavors, including a 32GB model for $499, a 32GB model with a black touch cover for $599 and a 64GB option with the black touch cover for $699.
The Surface RT was met with lukewarm reviews, largely because it runs on an ARM processor and can’t run apps designed for x86 processors. As such, there aren’t many applications available for the device yet. We suggest holding out for the Surface Pro, which will run the full version of Windows 8, or checking out a number of other Windows 8 devices, if you need the full power of an x86 computer.
