Microsoft Releases SmartGlass App for Android 4.0 and Up

xbox-smartglass-for-androidMicrosoft’s Xbox SmartGlass is a synchronized tech ballet that combines multiple devices with your favorite content. You probably already have the necessary ingredients — smartphone, tablet, TV, console — now all you need is the key to unlocking the software’s potential. If you’re on Android, the app is officially available for Android 4.0 and up.

With the app, Android users have the capability to interact with their Xbox 360 by controlling video, navigating the console, and searching for videos and music. As we detailed back in June, the potential is mouth watering: While watching Game of Thrones, viewers can display a map of the show’s universe; Playing Madden? Your tablet can act as a playbook. It’s up to content creators to come up with ways to implement the technology.

Microsoft promised SmartGlass would support devices people already own. It’s made its way to Android, and one would assume Apple’s iOS is next. When might that be? We’re not sure. But we’ll keep or eye out for the app’s release.
