[UPDATED] Report: Zynga Hides 100+ Lay-offs in Apple Press Conference Blitz

ZyngaUpdate (2:39pm EST): Gamasutra is reporting that they now have first-hand information regarding Zynga’s lay-offs. According to the site, Zynga’s Austin studio has seen a massive round of lay-offs.

Chicago and Boston are also rumored to have closed.

Original story: While Apple had the technology world’s attention with today’s press conference, Zynga supposedly thought it was a great time to perform a round of harsh lay-offs. We heard word of this through Twitter, where we hear word of almost every bit of bad news these days.

The tweet in question comes from Justin Maxwell, former designer for Apple, Mint, Sony and more. Here’s Maxwell’s note:

Zynga just laid off 100+ employees (incl. my friends) in its Austin office during the Apple Event. Gave them 2 hours to vacate. RT please.

We’re listing this as a rumor for now, but Zynga’s financial woes in recent months indicate that this news is likely legitimate. Hopefully, the curtain of Apple’s presser doesn’t block the world from seeing Zynga’s folly.
