Vodafone has become the second carrier in the United Kingdom (with Three the first) to begin rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S III. It will be a staggered release that will happen over the next few days, and customers will receive a notification to let them know when it’s ready to download over-the-air to their device.
If you don’t want to wait for it, however, Pocket-lint reports that you can connect your device to your PC and download the Jelly Bean upgrade straight away using Samsung’s Kies application.
The Jelly Bean upgrade for the Galaxy S III is unlike other Android updates, because it’s arriving on carrier-locked devices before it arrives on unlocked ones. Traditionally, unlocked and SIM-free handsets receive the software first — as soon as it’s released by the handset manufacturer.
It seems to be the other way around in this case, with Samsung keeping unlocked Galaxy S III owners waiting.
