Apple’s new iOS 6 operating system is already on 61 percent of all iOS devices in the United States and Canada, just one month after Apple made the operating system public following the debut of the iPhone 5. The data was revealed by Chitika on Monday, which uses its mobile ad network to track what operating system devices are running. The company’s data sample includes “hundreds of millions of mobile ad impressions” from Sept. 19 to Oct. 19.
Chitika said iOS 6 adoption growth has “leveled out” during the past seven days but the adoption rate is still increasing. As of Oct. 12 2012, 51% of all iOS devices in the U.S. and Canada were already on iOS 6. “We expect small gains for the OS in the coming weeks, with the possibility of iOS 6 usage touching 70% once adoption peaks,” the company said. “The upcoming release of the iPad mini will likely accelerate this process.”
