If it were up to me, the Desmond portion of the Assassin’s Creed universe would not exist. I understand that he was used as a narrative device in the modern war between Assassins and Templars, but his presence as the series wears on has become a little too unnecessary. I would be completely fine with a series of games that pit Assassins against Templars without a modern backdrop.
Still, now that we’ve come this far, Desmond’s story needs a dramatic conclusion. The trailer at the head of this post delivers, quite possibly, more information about Desmond than we’ve had over the entire series of games. As a character, he’s been a mystery. It looks like Assassin’s Creed III is poised to shed a lot of light on his side of the tale.
What do you folks think? Are you big fans of Desmond Miles’ sub-plot, or would you rather it didn’t exist at all in the Assassin’s Creed universe. What about the trailer above? Does it excite you for what’s bound to come in the next major entry in this franchise?
Assassin’s Creed III will launch on October 30th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. It will be available for the Wii U on the system’s launch date, November 18th.
