That was fast. Yesterday Microsoft officially launched its Surface with Windows RT tablets and made them available for pre-order, with delivery promised on by Oct 26. Now, the 32GB $499 option is already sold out, it appears. The company’s website now says that units will ship within three weeks and no longer promises an Oct. 26 delivery date. The good news? If you want a 64GB model iwth a black touch cover, or the 32GB option with a black touch cover, you can still get the device by the time Windows 8 launches.

We’re not sure what Microsoft’s initial allotment was, but this is great news for a company that’s trying to enter a dangerously packed tablet market.
