Starbucks Brings Passbook Support to Canada & U.K., Continues to Ignore iPhone 5

Starbucks app on iPhone

Starbucks introduced Passbook support to its iOS app earlier this month, but the feature was only available to users in the United States. Today, however, another update to the app brings Passbook support to Canada and the United Kingdom, but Starbucks continues to ignore the new iPhone 5.

This is the second iOS update Starbucks has released since the iPhone 5 made its debut back in September, but the company is yet to optimize its app for the handset’s larger 4-inch display. That means you have to use it “letterboxed” — with black bars both above and below the app.

However, if you’re taking advantage of a Starbucks card in Passbook, you may not have to use the actual app itself all that much anyway.

After installing today’s update on your device, the app will ask you for your favorite Starbucks stores. Once these are set, your Passbook card will automatically appear on your iPhone’s lock screen when you approach their location. In addition to support for Canada and the U.K., this update allows U.S. customers to receive “My Starbucks Rewards” on the iPhone.

Have you used a Starbucks card on your iPhone yet?
