Well, it looks like Microsoft won’t be participating in the $200 tablet wars after all. The company recently accidentally leaked the pricing for its Surface RT tablets and they’re a bit pricier than we first expected.
The 32GB option, without a touch cover, costs $499. The same model with a touch cover is priced at $599 while a 64GB model, which comes bundled with the touch cover, costs $699. Microsoft’s site has since been taken down, but we imagine it will be up again shortly since it has pre-order options for shipment by Oct. 26, the day that Windows 8 launches.
Is the Surface RT pricing too high for you? I may hold out for Microsoft’s Windows 8 Surface tablet instead, so that I can run full x86 apps.
Update: It appears the Surface pricing is now official. Ars Technica said pre-orders should start at 9:00 a.m. Pacific.
