Microsoft ordered between 3 million and 5 million Surface tablet units from its Asian parts suppliers, The Wall Street Journal said Tuesday. We learned earlier today that Microsoft’s entry-level 32GB Surface RT tablet will cost $499 and that pre-orders should be beginning shortly with delivery expected on Oct. 26. That, then, corroborates perfectly with sources speaking to The Wall Street Journal who said that mass production of the tablets started in early October.

It appears Microsoft has high hopes for the Surface tablet that, at its price point, will compete directly with Apple’s iPad. We can’t wait to bring you a full review as soon as we get a unit in house.
