I Really Want the Romo Robot

by Todd Haselton | October 16, 2012October 16, 2012 11:00 pm PDT

Whoa, I like robots and all but, for the most part, they can’t get me a coffee from the kitchen or they’re prohibitively expensive. The robot above might not be able to fetch me food, but it’s awesome in its own right.

A company called Romotive just finished developing its third-generation Romo, a personal robot that can be controlled with iOS devices. Here’s how it works: you pop an iPod or iPhone onto the robot and then control it using another iOS-powered device, such as an iPhone, iPod touch or an iPad. You can download expressions and control the robot, which uses your iPhone or iPod touch camera to show its adventures, as it moves around your house.

The company’s little robot is available from Neiman Marcus for $150, but it’s already backordered. Boo.

Mom, if you’re reading this, I’ll take one for Christmas.
