New iPod Nano Already Had Its First Software Update

iPod nano 101 update

Getting a new iPod nano this weekend? The first thing you’ll want to do after you’ve unwrapped your new toy is update its software. Apple has already issued a 1.0.1 software update for the device — just days after it began shipping — which introduces compatibility for the latest version of iTunes.

It’s an odd update, because Apple usually updates iTunes to play nicely with devices, rather than the other way around. But in this case, it seems it was just easier for the Cupertino company to address any issues on the device itself as opposed to updating its desktop application.

It’s unclear what the update fixes specifically, but you’ll probably want to get it installed before attempting to sync with iTunes if possible. You’ll be prompted to do so as soon as you plug the device into your machine.
